Electroplating technologies of highly durable coatings for sustainable manufacturing and high temperature applications

Principal Investigator: Prof. Dr. Yuttanant Boonyongmaneerat, Chulalongkorn University

Electroplating – the process of coating surfaces with a metal coating using electricity – is used in numerous industries such as automotive industry, electronics industry, medical industry, aviation industry and defense industry. As industries are leaning towards sustainable manufacturing, advanced electroplating technologies that provide high performance coatings are in demand. This project, therefore, aims to develop electroplating technologies of highly durable coatings for sustainable manufacturing and high temperature applications. Highly durable coatings offer environmental benefits as objects last longer with durable coatings and therefore resources are saved from producing new ones. The new technologies will not only increase the competitiveness of electroplating industry, but also benefit a wide range of industries that require its application. This project is carried out by Chulalongkorn University in collaboration with Thailand’s leading electroplating service provider SCG Chemicals Company Limited and Fraunhofer Institute for Manufacturing Engineering and Automation (Fraunhofer IPA) of Germany.

Joint cognitive innovation city development: Korea and Thailand partnership in safe and secure intelligent system

Principal Investigator: Assist. Prof. Dr. Wannarat Suntiamorntut, Prince of Songkla University

Smart city applies Internet of Things (IoT) and digital technologies to enhance the quality and performance of city administration and services with the goal to improve the quality of life via technology. In this project, a public safety intelligent system for tourists will be developed and implemented in Andaman provinces (Phuket and Krabi) as a testbed under the academic-industry collaboration between Prince of Songkla University, Thai IT solution provider Point IT Consulting Company Limited, and Korea-based integrated mobility service platform developer FATOS Company Limited through the coordination of Korea Trade-Investment Promotion Agency (KOTRA). The safety intelligent system employs data processing and tracking systems to offer total solutions to the safety and security of tourists in the area. Knowledge acquired from this Thailand-Korea joint implementation will contribute to the sustainable ecosystem development and provide a blueprint to implement the system in other cities in Thailand and the ASEAN region.

South Korea-Thailand smart city development collaboration in holistic and continuity elderly care platform

Principal Investigator: Assoc. Prof. Dr. Wiroon Sriborrirux, Burapha University

Thailand’s elderly population is growing rapidly. The elderly population was estimated to be 12 million in 2021 and the senior proportion is projected to reach 37.1% in the next 30 years. As a result, investment in retirement communities in Thailand catering to Thai and foreign seniors is experiencing a high growth. To support this expanding sector, this project proposes to develop an effective elderly care innovation. The elderly care platform integrates various data of elderly individuals – such as physical activity profiles, personal health records, food nutrition and health conditions – and analyzes health conditions in order to provide close and continuous healthcare services and surveillance for the elderly in the community. The proposed platform is connected to healthcare facilities, allowing health professionals to be called in, thus creating a truly holistic and 24-hour care service for the elderly. The project is a collaboration between Burapha University and Korea-based Naver Cloud Corp.
