PMUC joins effort with SRT and RU Lampang to launch 2nd round of train tourism, taking tourists on a winter trip to see meteor shower at Mae Moh.

On December 13th– 15th, 2022, Lampang Rajabhat University together with the State Railway of Thailand (SRT) organized a pilot trip package with a special train route, signing an MOU on services and research under the project to develop creative tourism by train thru the Lanna era route. There is also a food culture tourism element under the creative tourism project based on Lampang’s unique cuisine and surrounding areas around Lampang Rajabhat University. The fund to suppor the research project was granted by the Program Management Unit for Competitiveness (PMUC) under the Science, Research and Innovation Fund, with an aim to exchange knowledge on the development of railway tourism routes and the old town of Lampang, Lamphun, and Chiang Mai.

This trip is the 2nd time for the tour, with the first trip happening last November on the route of the Lanna era thru old town, Lampang, Lamphun, and Chiang Mai, which received an overwhelming response, leading to this second tour with new special features added on. The trip allows tourists to experience the local way of life in the Lanna culture, especially the trip to see the Geminids meteor shower, which is one of the most prominent meteor showers of the year at the stargazing ground of the Electricity Generating Authority of Mae Moh, Chiang Mai Province. Tourists will also have a chance to pay respect to important sacred places of Lampang and Lamphun provinces, such as Wat Phra That Lampang Luang, Wat Phra Kaew Don Tao, Suchadaram Trilak Cemetery, Wat Doi Phra Chan, Wat Phra That Hariphunchai Woramahawihan. Tourists will also get to go shopping for local products like ceramics and handicrafts at Long Him Cow etc.

Organizing a trip on this special train route has been well received by tourists, who were very impressed. But furthermore, this extraordinary route would never have been possible if not for the research process through learning the way of life, culture and identity of each locality. The next travel route will be organized at the beginning of next year to welcome the new year in 2023 under the theme of “Make Merit, Enhance Charisma at 9 Temples of Good Luck to Welcome the New Year” by traveling with a special procession of Utravithi between 20-22 January 2023
