The State Railway of Thailand (SRT), in collaboration with PMUC and the Songkhla Rajabhat University, organized a train journey along the southern railway route, titled ” Cultural Tourism Route by Rail, Connecting the Cultures of the Gulf of Thailand and Andaman Sea” was part of the research project “Development of Creative Tourism by Railway on Pilot Routes: Southern Cultural Railway Lines.”, with an aim to connect local tourism destinations, creating economic value based on cultural heritage, under the support of the National Science, Research, and Innovation Fund.

Today (13 Nov), Songkhla Rajabhat University (SKRU) together with the State Railway of Thailand organized a creative tourism route testing activity by the southern cultural railway under the research project of creative tourism development by railway on pilot routes: Southern Cultural Railway, supported by the Program Management Unit for Competitiveness (PMUC) with funding from the the National Science, Research, and Innovation Fund, and Mr. Kachornkiat Rakpanitmanee, the Governor of Nakhon Si Thammarat Province, was the master of chairman of the ceremony. Assoc. Prof. Thatsana Sirichote, Ph.D., President of SKRU, welcomed the attendees as the host of the event, along with the distinguished guests, executives from PMUC, researchers from SKRU, heads of government agencies, and tourism entrepreneurs, participating in the creative tourism route procession by railway on the test route: Nakhon Si Thammarat-Thung Song-Kan Tang, to jointly test the tourism route on 28-29 October 2023.

Mr. Kachornkiat Rakpanitmanee, the Governor of Nakhon Si Thammarat Province, stated that Nakhon Si Thammarat Province is an important province in the southern region with outstanding and diverse tourism resources, including natural resources, art and culture, traditions, and the way of life of the people, reflecting the uniqueness of the southern region. Its charm attracts tourists, especially traveling by train, as there are many important railway stations such as Thung Song Junction Station, Wat That Noi Railway Station, and Nakhon Si Thammarat Railway Station. Traveling by train to Nakhon Si Thammarat connects tourists to many important tourist destinations in the area. It also links to other provinces such as Trang, Phatthalung, and Songkhla. Train travel for tourism is interesting and promotes economic distribution to tourist destinations and local communities. This event aims to benefit the development of tourism in Nakhon Si Thammarat province and neighboring provinces.


Assoc. Prof. Thatsana Sirichote, Ph.D., President of Prince of Songkhla Rajabhat University (SKRU), expressed delight and privilege to participate in the creative tourism route testing activity by train on the leading route from Nakhon Si Thammarat Railway Station to Thung Song-Kantang. The objective of this research project is to develop and design routes and creative tourism activities by train to distribute tourism to destinations and communities in the area, aiming to create economic value based on the cultural heritage of the southern region.
This event focuses on collaboration with all sectors including government, private, and local communities, aiming to drive creative tourism for the area’s tourism and overall image of Thailand.
